Jerold M. Wassel, OD
Dr. Jerold (Jerry) Wassel has been in practice since 1979. After spending two years as an Optometric Clinical Instructor in a downtown Baltimore City eye clinic, and the next two years on staff with the Baltimore City Health Department, he opened his office in Jarrettsville in May 1984. The practice grew along with the community for the next 25 years. After purchasing the Bircham Food Market from its retiring owner, Dr. Wassel built the present Bircham Medical Center, currently housing three medical practices. His special interests include pediatric vision and reading skills, and specialized contact lens fitting.
Dr. Wassel is a member of the American Public Health Association, the American Optometric Association, and the Maryland Optometric Association, and is proud of the clinical and public service awards he has received from these groups. He is past-President of both the Northeast MD Optometric Society, and the Greater Baltimore Optometric Society. Currently, he is MD State Administrator for Vision Source, a national network of over 2000 Optometric Practices dedicated to the promotion of public vision welfare and high clinical standards.
Dr. Wassel has been married since 1978 to his wife Shelbie, and has two daughters, Dani (and son-in-law, Mark) and Molly. He enjoys traveling, photography, tennis, and talking Ravens football.

Lois Phipps
Practice Administrator/Senior Optometric Technician
Ms. Lois Phipps' title is Practice Administrator, but Lois is actually the face of the practice. Lois grew up in Jarrettsville----actually on the same road and just a few houses down from the office, and has been serving her patients here for 23 years. In addition, Lois has taken over the position as Senior Optometric Technician and enjoys explaining to patients her interpretation of their glaucoma, peripheral field, and neurological testing results.

Jill Herold
Practice Optical Administrator
Ms. Jill Herold has been Senior Optician and Optical Manager since 2003. She has used her experience of over 21 years in the Optical Profession to give a look to the Optical side of our office the likes of which the community has never seen - combining classic styles with fun interpretations. Everyone comments on Jill's smile and how her sense of humor lightens their day. Jill says her teenage daughters, Jordan and Alex, keep her constantly on the run.

 Cathi Welk
Optometric Technician/Patient Consul
Ms. Cathi Welk is one of the newest members of our team, joining us in Spring 2009. She comes to us with 17 years of experience in an Optometric practice and the most recent 10 years in an Ophthalmology Refractive Surgical practice. Cathi enjoys spending time with her family including the most recent addition, her first Grandchild, Katie. She can often be seen in the area riding her Harley-Davidson with her husband, Jim. |

Terry Muzii
Certified Optician/Optometric Technician
Ms. Terry Muzii is a Certified Optician, with over 16 years experience in the Dispensing Optical field. Terry loves patients who present her with challenges, whether it’s a strong Rx and for a patient who wants thin lenses, kids who are active in sports and need correction, or someone with a sensitive nose bridge. Terry can take care of anyone. Even contact lens patients with "five thumbs". Terry is married to her husband, Eric.

 Pam Madden
Certified Optician
Ms. Pam Madden is an ABO Certified Optician. Pam comes to the practice with over 23 years of experience in the optical field...including managing a large retail optical business for the past 15 years. She enjoys the rapport with her patients, especially kids. Pam has been happily married for almost 30 years to her husband Paul, and they are parents to April and Paul. She enjoys long walks with the family dogs, Baily and Toby, and family trips to the beach. |

Billing Coordinator/Patient Advocate
For any insurance or billing issues, calls to Ms. Trish Hava are answered quickly, politely, accurately, and with a smile. Trish and her family have been patients for many years and Trish handles billing for several medical practices through her own home-based company. We are fortunate to have this talented woman in-house to take care of our patients' complex financial needs.
